Apple had to retreat after a lawsuit against a Chinese local companyrejected the local court. As a result of a lawsuit for alleged trademarkinfringement against the iPad, Apple may have to rename its products inChina or pay a fine amounting to USD1, 6 billion.
Local companies are being sued by Apple was named ProviewTechnology, and is a subsidiary of Proview International Holdings Ltd.,which has several branches in Taipei with headquarters located in HongKong.
Proview Taipei registered trademark 'iPad' in some countries what early 2000, while registering the brand Proview Shenzen in China, in 2001.Long before Apple launched iPadnya.
Apple bought the rights to use the trademark Proview Taipei in 2008, with a payment of USD 54,616. However, Proview Shenzhen has reserved the right to use that trademark in China. Since then both companies areentangled in legal battles.
Proview Shenzhen which was originally a leading manufacturer of LCDpanels, are now being threatened with bankruptcy due to the global financialcrisis. Thus was launched by NDTV, Thursday (08/12/2011).
"The action Apple are weird. They did not earn the right to use the 'iPad' trademark when they start selling iPad in China, in September last year," said Huang Yiding of the Public Relations Department, Hejun VanguardGroup's, a firm of management consultants who are dealing with ProviewShenzhen bankruptcy
