UN recognize Palestine
as a sovereign state
The vote in the UN recognize Palestine as a sovereign state, but it is
still a long road to full independence for the Palestinians.
More than two-thirds of the 193 UN member states recognized Palestine as a sovereign
state, in a vote of the UN General Assembly held on Thursday (29/11) local time.
This is a victory for the Palestinians after decades of
occupation and war, as well as a blow to Israel
and its ally the United
States . Direct Palestinian flag was raised
at the General Assembly building, behind the Palestinian delegation, after the
final vote included.
From 193 member states, 138 agreed to increase the status of
the Palestinian from "entity" to "non-member observer state"
like the Vatican ,
nine declined and 41 countries did not vote.
This historic voting comes 65 years after the UN General
Assembly agreed in 1947 to divide Palestine
into two states, one for Jews and another for Arabs. Israel a state, but the
Palestinians rejected the partition plan, that took place decades of tension and
violence.
But real independence is still not apparent until the
Palestinians to negotiate a peace treaty with Israel , which warned that the
actions of the General Assembly will only delay long-term solution. Israel still controls the West Bank, east Jerusalem and access to Gaza , and Palestinians accusing spent
negotiating with the campaign to increase their status in the United Nations.
In the West Bank city of Ramallah , Palestinians gathered in the main
square, waving Palestinian flags and chanting "Allahu Akbar-God is Great".
Hundreds of people watched polling and television screens outside the room, then
hugged, honk horns and set off fireworks as the last vote entry.
